Defa chairman dies aged 72

Chairman of Cyprus’ Natural Gas Public Corporation (Defa) Antonis Patsalis has died at the age of 72, it was reported on Tuesday.

News of his death was announced by the spokeswoman of the electricity authority (EAC), where Patsalis had previously worked as deputy director.

She said Patsalis had died on Monday, and would always be remembered for his “simplicity, positivity and hard work”.

Patsalis was appointed as Defa chairman in May 2023 following a cabinet decision and his term renewed for another 30 months in January.
