EastEnders star lands brand new series of BBC game show after ratings success and celebrity spin-offs
EASTENDERS star Ross Kemp will be hosting a fourth series of the hit BBC game show Bridge of Lies.
Soap star-turned-presenter Ross, 60, is best known for playing Grant Mitchell in EastEnders.
Grant was a regular fixture in Walford from 1990 to 1999, but he has made several returns in recent years too.
His last reunion with his on-screen brother Phil (Steve McFadden) came in 2016 as part of the late Barbara Windsor’s exit storyline, but it seems that Ross may be too busy to return to the soap these days.
As well as presenting a number of critically acclaimed documentaries, Ross has become the regular host of the BBC game show Bridge of Lies.
The series follows a group of contestants from across the U.K. as they compete for cash by crossing the Bridge. It is formed of a collection of stepping stones featuring various truths and lies based on general knowledge categories.
Each player must try to step on the truths and safely avoid the lies, or risk falling off and out of the game. Once they’ve conquered the Bridge on their own, successful contestants will join forces to face the dramatic final crossing for a chance to take home some cash.
The show is filmed in Glasgow and produced by STV Studios for BBC Daytime.
Speaking on the game show’s continued success, Gary Chippington, STV’s Creative Director of Entertainment, said, “We are so proud of this show. It’s gone from strength to strength and we were delighted by the reaction to the latest series and celebrity specials from audiences and critics alike.”
He continued, praising the EastEnders alum: “Our wonderful host, Ross Kemp, plays a huge part in the show’s success, and we’re looking forward to being back in the Glasgow studio with him, some brilliant new contestants and our fantastic production team later this year.”
Bridge of Lies has been a major hit for the BBC and has even had a celebrity spin-off version with many other EastEnders stars coming along to compete.
In it, Ross came face-to-face with Danielle Harold during an episode of the new series.
Danielle, 31, played Grant’s on-screen niece Lola Pearce in EastEnders before being written out of the soap last year in a heartbreaking brain cancer storyline.
The EastEnders star joined forces with Coronation Street’s Simon Gregson and Emmerdale’s Chris Bisson to face the Bridge.
Other celebrities who have competed on the game show include Judy Murray, Gethin Jones and Scarlette Douglas.
