There is certainly a lot of excitement at Tottenham about Gray’s potential, with the youngster arriving at the North London club with a big reputation.

The 18-year-old caught the eye with his versatility, composure, technical quality and athleticism during his breakthrough season at Leeds and Spurs fans will be hoping that Ange Postecoglou is the man to bring the best out of the youngster, who some view as a generational talent.

However, apart from his ability as a footballer, it turns out that the teenager is also a lovely human being.

Alasdair Gold has revealed that Gray actually thanked the press officer for the opportunity to do an event with children and families from Yokohama Children’s Hospice during Tottenham’s pre-season trip to Japan.

The journalist wrote in his column on Football.London: “When he walked away from his interview with football.london, he could be heard thanking the press officer for the opportunity to do the event with the children. That’s not the way round it normally goes with player appearances.”

This is perhaps a testament to the fact that Tottenham’s recruitment over the last year has been focused on not just signing the right tactical fits but also on the right type of characters.

Postecoglou has made it clear that he wants a family feel in the dressing room and he is evidently prioritising that while deciding on his transfer targets.

That is why I have some doubts over whether Ivan Toney is someone that the Australian would be particularly keen on.
