'That doesn't make any sense': Republican's J.D. Vance defense shut down on CNN

A Republican's attempt to defend Sen. J.D. Vance's problematic cat lady comments quickly exasperated a Democrat who shut down his argument with a single question: "How are you going to prosecute a prosecutor?"

That was the question Michael Blake, former vice chair of the Democratic National Committee, put to former National Republican Senatorial committee aide Liam Donovan on CNN Tuesday morning.

Blake's snappy retort came as Donovan tried to claim Vance, Donald Trump's newly anointed running mate, could recover from his current controversy by coordinating an attack on Harris' prior policy platforms.

"They really need to coordinate this message," Donovan said. "The surrogates are not on message — they need to organize this and really prosecute the case against Kamala Harris."

"That doesn't make any sense," Blake shot back. "The reality is they're in complete disaster...they have no message, they have no argument."

Donavan himself was quick to cast blame on his own political party as he tried to repair the damage done by new reporting that found Vance repeatedly calls childless Americans sociopaths.

Nor did profess himself impressed with Vance's response to the controversy — a defense of his position on Megyn Kelly's podcast that left Blake shaking his head.

"My question is, why has it been two weeks without without J.D. Vance really taking the opportunity to reintroduce himself?" Donovan asked.

"They're really ceding the playing field to Democrats and I think that's a mistake — they need to get on an offensive message and reintroduce J.D. in a proactive way, not a reactive way."

Once again, Blake scoffed.

"Let's be clear," Blake said. "They did a terrible vetting job. They clearly were not prepared for the moment and they have a disastrous candidate for their V.P. nominee, which will make it much easier for Kamala Harris to become president of the United States."
