Adidas Is Mashing Up the Samba Sneaker With the Puig Skate Shoe

Releasing at the beginning of August.

Adidas is merging skateboarding and soccer through a new hybrid sneaker.

The Adidas Puig Samba will release in August as a mash up of the classic Samba and Lucas Puig’s signature model with the former’s go-to “Cloud White/Core Black” colorway. The terrace style staple informs the upper, which includes the instantly recognizable T-Toe, as well as the molded tongue and heel and Three Stripes motif paired with gold debossing that reads “Samba” on the lateral side and “Puig” on the medial.

It isn’t just a straight mix-and-match, however, as the upper takes on a more form-fitting shape. The Puig’s sole carries over intact, bringing its EVA foam cushioning with the Samba’s signature gum look. Lacesaver tech has also been added to make the Puig Samba more durable for skating.

Adidas launched the Puig in 2012, the same year the French skateboarder signed with the brand. Now a staple of the sport, the Puig takes inspiration from the Stan Smith, which Lucas began skating in at 13 years old. He’s also pointed to French footballing legend and Adidas endorser Zinedine Zidane as a reason for signing with the brand, making the Puig Samba a full-circle moment.

The Samba, of course, has been a huge driver for Adidas now for several years running. Comparisons for the Puig Samba can easily be drawn to the Samba Millennium, a modernized version of the sneaker introduced in 2009 for indoor soccer and brought back to the market earlier this year.

The Adidas Puig Samba will release August 1 through Adidas’ website and select third-party retailers. Pricing is set at $100.
