'I am shocked!' Ex-Trump aide surprised nobody fired over campaign's Harris response

Former White House communications director Alyssa Farah Griffin thinks someone on Donald Trump's team should be fired for failing to prepare for a campaign against Vice President Kamala Harris.

Speaking with her colleagues on "The View" Tuesday, Griffin described how shocked she has been watching the Trump team flail as it tried to figure out a way to attack Harris.

In an interview with Fox host Laura Ingraham Monday, Trump took aim at Harris' laugh and said it indicated that she was "crazy." Even Ingraham swatted his comments, saying, "I like laughter sometimes."

Other Republicans, including U.S. Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA), have called Harris a "ding dong," a "loon," and a "vegetable."

"Before we move on to the next thing, this really tells me how out of touch they are because you talk about a woman of color," began Whoopi Goldberg.

"Do you think anything that you could come up with she hasn't heard before? This isn't new. People say you only got the job because you're a person of color. ... You all have to get more creative! You do. You have to raise the bar if you're going to do this kind of thing, and keep in mind that you all are living your best caricatures. You're being exactly the people we think you are."

Griffin addressed the laughter issue, saying that in all the years she's been in Republican politics, she's never seen Trump laugh.

Sara Haines mentioned Trump's nephew Fred Trump III's new book, which described Donald Trump's father considering laughter a "weakness." Humor made him "too vulnerable," it read.

"He does a smile and just pauses," said Griffin. "That's weird."

Joy Behar said she didn't like the "name-calling" aspect of the GOP and doesn't want to see Democrats do the same.

"I don't like name-calling; you won't see me do it unless I slip up, and then I own it," Griffin said.

"Weird, I don't think, is below the belt. This is not your grandfather's Republican Party. This is one that is going outside of the mainstream much further. The policies and the positions they're adopting."

Meanwhile, Griffin said she's "confounded [by] Donald Trump and his team. I am shocked they haven't fired someone yet. I like her, and I could write a better ad against her than they have. It's bizarre.

"They have this new one out that's her dancing. She looks great and looks like your cool aunt, who you wish your mom was a little bit more like. And a quick interview saying she hadn't been to the border yet."

Griffin said that all Harris must do to hit back against it is to say that they had a border bill and Trump killed it.
