India's javelin throw star, Neeraj Chopra, has arrived at the Olympic Games Village in Paris, ready to defend his gold medal. Chopra will kick off his campaign in the Men's Group A Javelin Throw Qualification Round on August 6.

New Delhi: India’s javelin throw star, Neeraj Chopra, arrived at the Olympic Games Village in Paris on Tuesday, July 30. The 26-year-old sensation is set to compete in the Men’s Group A Javelin Throw Qualification Round on August 6 at the iconic Stade de France. Chopra, hailing from Haryana, enters the competition as the defending champion, having clinched a historic gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Ahead of the event, India’s golden boy, Neeraj Chopra, has arrived at the Olympic Games Village in Paris, ready to replicate his Tokyo triumph. Chopra excitedly shared the news with his fans on social media, posing for a few photographs as he gears up for the competition.

Namaskar Paris! Excited to finally reach the Olympic Games village. #Paris2024,” wrote Chopra on his X account.

Chopra is on the brink of making history as he has a chance to become the first Indian athlete to clinch back-to-back medals at the Olympics. At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, he became the first Indian to secure a gold medal in track and field events with an impressive throw of 87.58 meters.

Chopra’s journey to Paris has been far from smooth, marred by injuries that forced him to withdraw from several competitions leading up to the Games. Despite these setbacks, the gold medallist has managed to stay fresh and well-rested for the event.

He opted out of the Ostrava Golden Spike 2024 as a precautionary measure, focusing on his preparation for the Olympics. Chopra will once again face tough competition from Czechia’s Jakub Vadlejch, who bested him with a throw of 88.38m at the Doha leg of the 2024 Diamond League season.

As he approaches the Olympics, Chopra has acknowledged the pressure to defend his title. Nonetheless, he is determined to give his all and deliver a spectacular performance, aiming to elevate the Indian tricolour once again at this grand sporting event.
