Josh Hartnett Explains How Stalking Incidents Led to His Break from Acting & Hollywood

Josh Hartnett is hard at work promoting his new horror film Trap and he’s opening up about his break from the limelight.

The 46-year-old actor was joined by wife Tamsin Egerton while attending the UK premiere of Trap on Monday night (July 29) in London, England.

Josh was joined at the event by director M. Night Shyamalan and his daughter Saleka, who stars in the film as a pop star. The director’s wife Bhavna Vaswani and daughter Ishana were also in attendance.

Earlier in the day, Josh, Saleka, and M. Night attended a photo call to promote the film.

In a new interview, Josh explained how stalking incidents led to his break from acting.

“People’s attention to me at the time was borderline unhealthy,” Josh told The Guardian.

“Well, look, I don’t want to give this a lot of weight,” he continued. “There were incidents. People showed up at my house. People that were stalking me… A guy showed up at one of my premieres with a gun, claiming to be my father. He ended up in prison.”

Josh said that incident happened 19 years ago when he was just 27.

“There were lots of things. It was a weird time. And I wasn’t going to be grist for the mill,” he added.
