The voting figures have been revealed – showing the result wasn’t a close call

In total Mimii and Josh received 41% of the vote with Ciaran and Nicole taking 35% – showing the result wasn’t a close call.

Matilda and Sean came third with 14% and Jess and Ayo placed fourth with 10% of the vote.

Smitten Mimii and Josh were left shell-shocked when Maya Jama announced them as winning the show and £50,000 cash prize.

Mimii cried and told the presenter: “I wasn’t expecting this,” adding she felt “over stimulated, overwhelmed, grateful”.

The mental health nurse made history with semi-pro footballer Josh as the first all-black couple to take the top spot in Love Island.

Welsh couple Ciaran and Nicole were the favourites, having been together since the first recoupling and becoming girlfriend and boyfriend.

Replying to the post, one fan said: “People are complaining saying should be CIARAN AND NICOLE as the winners that’s why they posted this. TRANSPARENCY IS THE KEY !! Well done Love Island.”

However, another viewer said: “A lot of people blindsided by Mimi & Josh. Should be called ‘sympathy island’ this. Reeks of Amber situation few series back.”

Amber Gill won Love Island in 2019 with latecomer Greg O’Shea after being coupled up for just 12 days – and split up within weeks of leaving the villa.

Many fans believed Amber carried them to the final, and that history has repeated itself with Mimii and Josh.

Mimii was hugely popular with her co-stars and viewers.

Hundreds complained on her behalf to Ofcom accusing Joey Essex and Sean Stone of “ganging up” on her.

The lads refused to let it slide when Mimii moved on with Josh, saying she still had feelings for Ayo.

Some fans insisted Mimii won Love Island on her own – likening the result to Amber Gill and Greg O’Shea winning in 2019
