Portland's Farragut Park gets upgraded playground, splash pad, basketball court

The City of Portland announced the completion of more than $3 million in upgrades to Farragut Park in North Portland on July 30.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The City of Portland announced the completion of more than $3 million in upgrades to Farragut Park in North Portland on July 30.

Portland Parks & Recreation said that the refurbished park features a splash pad with dumping buckets, a new basketball court, a toddler playground and two restrooms.

“The Bureau installed more play equipment for park visitors ages five and under, helping to ensure that PP&R is providing appropriate play opportunities for more people of all ages and abilities,” PP&R announced Tuesday. “The Farragut Park project also features benches, a picnic table, a drinking fountain and new ADA-accessible ramps leading to the park and pathways.”

Additional construction to the park’s sidewalks and utilities are expected to be completed by mid-August. Funding for the project included $1.75 million in system development charges (one-time fees assessed on new development), $800,000 from the Parks Major Maintenance Fund and $455,220 from the General Fund.

“There are many other playgrounds across the community’s parks system that need repairs,” PP&R said.
