COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- A Columbus man could spend the next 10 1/2 years in prison after entering a plea agreement in a fatal shooting from August 2021.

The Franklin County Prosecutor's Office said Frank Mitchell, 66, entered an Alford plea Monday to first-degree felony voluntary manslaughter, meaning Mitchell avoids a trial without admitting his guilt.

Mitchell was immediately sentenced to between seven and 10 1/2 years in prison, with 985 days of jail credit.

According to court records, on Aug. 24, 2021, Dominick Baxton, 40, and another person were asked to move furniture in the Mount Vernon section of the city. When Braxton left his home, a man later identified as Mitchell shot Braxton, killing him.

For the Alford plea, charges of murder and weapons under disability were dropped.

When Mitchell's prison sentence ends, he will be under post-release control for 2-5 years.
