THE Olympic flame was grounded as an unexpected thunderstorm headed towards Paris.
Thousands of fans have gathered every night to watch the Olympic Cauldron take off into the Parisian sky.
The Olympic flame was one of the highlights of Friday’s opening ceremony as it rose into the sky underneath a hot air balloon just before Celine Dion performed.
Since then the cauldron carrying the flame is usually scheduled to go up in the air each night from sunset until 02:00 BST.
And there have been fans capturing spectacular images of it floating above the Paris skyline.

Organisers say the flame will stay grounded near the Louvre Museum following a thunderstorm alert in Paris.
This followed as an orange warning for thunderstorms was issued earlier in the day.
The flame has gained mass attention this year with one fan saying it is “the best Olympic flame” they have seen.

It is an environmentally friendly water-based flame that is safe for anyone to touch.
Tony Estanguet, head of the Paris 2024 organising committee, revealed the new green-geared design for the Games‘ flame, which has replaced fossil fuel-reliant fire.
The faux flame beneath the cauldron is 40 electrically powered LED spotlights and 200 high-pressure misting nozzles which combine to give the illusion of a traditional flame.
The flame is open for public viewing at ground level during the day at Tuileries Garden, with 10,000 ticket holders able to witness it close up before it once again rises 30 metres into the sky at night time.
