Body of missing person recovered from Erie Canal in Orleans County

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – Orleans County Sheriffs recovered a body found in the Erie Canal near Hulberton Road in the Town of Murray.

Deputies said they found 39-year-old Robert Bristol after he was reported missing around 5:25 a.m. Tuesday.

OCSO started the search with a K9 unit, Drone Unit, and Marine Division. They also received assistance from the MCSO Dive Team. Bristol was tracked from his last known location and found submerged in water close to the area where the track ended.

The circumstances around Bristol's death are still under investigation. Deputies said they have reason to believe the consumption of alcoholic beverages may have contributed to his falling into the canal.

His body was transported to the Monroe County Medical Examiner's Office for further investigation.
