City rejects bid on Hotel Topeka

TOPEKA (KSNT) - The City of Topeka has rejected an official bid on Hotel Topeka.

The Topeka Development Corporation has rejected one bid for Hotel Topeka. Members of the Topeka Development Corporation held an executive session to review and evaluate Hotel Topeka bids Tuesday evening.

Director Spencer Duncan moved a bid from 1717 Realty to an action item, and to reject the bid as it has been proposed; Director Karen Hiller seconded the motion. The motion carried, passing 8 to 1. Board Director Marcus Miller voted no for this item. They did not publicly reveal the terms of the bid.

The City of Topeka bought the hotel for $7.5 million at an auction in 2023. Since the hotel purchase, city officials have been clear on their stance; they do not want to be in the hotel business.

About a month after deciding to buy Hotel Topeka, the Topeka City Council voted to terminate Wade from his city manager position, for having an “inappropriate relationship with a subordinate,” according to the City of Topeka.
