Parents investigated for manslaughter of three-month-old child in Nicosia

A 23-year-old man is being investigated for suspected manslaughter of his three-month-old child which died in Nicosia general hospital.

He has been remanded in court for eight days since Tuesday, while police are on the hunt for the mother who appears to be abroad.

The infant died on Sunday but bore signs of serious neglect that prompted staff to alert police.

Reports suggested the child appeared to be malnourished and their physical health neglected.

The father faces charges of manslaughter as well as causing death by neglect or dangerous acts.

An autopsy on the body carried out by chief state pathologist Angeliki Papetta and pathologist Orthodoxos Orthodoxou found the infant had serious signs of neglect.
