Meet Beth Potter, former physics teacher representing Team GB as a triathlete at Paris 2024 Olympics
BETH POTTER is the former physics teacher and athletics star representing Team GB at the Paris Olympics.
Potter has been picked to represent Team GB in the triathlon after making a career switch.
Who is Beth Potter?
Potter, 32, was born in Glasgow, Scotland on December 27, 1991.
She was started her athletics career in track and field and won long-distance competitions as a teenager in Scotland.
In 2016, Potter qualified as the second British woman in the 10,000m race behind Jess Andrews at the Rio Olympics.
She finished 34th and qualified for the 2017 World Athletics Championships in London a year later.
Around the time of the Games in Brazil, Potter also quit her teaching job to concentrate on her athletics career.
But before long, she would have something new to focus on.
In 2017, Potter announced she was moving from athletics to triathlon to compete in the 2020 Tokyo Games.
But she was overlooked for Georgia Taylor-Brown, Jess Learmonth and Vicky Holland as Britain’s three women’s picks.
She did win bronze for Scotland in the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
But Potter felt she had unfinished business and vowed to qualify for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
And after European and World Championship triathlon victories – she did just that.

Yes, Potter will be competing in the Paris Olympics.
She was named as the first female triathlete selected to represent Team GB along with Georgia Taylor-Brown and Kate Waugh.
Potter said: “Paris will be my first games as a triathlete, and I am looking forward to it,
“This year has been tough to get the results I needed to qualify so I am looking forward to a bit of a mini break before getting back into training with my full focus being on Paris.”
When will Beth Potter be competing in the Paris Olympics?
The Games officially kicks off from Friday, July 26 and culminates on Sunday, August 11.
Potter will compete in the women’s individual race on Wednesday, July 31 as part of Day 5 of the Olympics.
