A LUXURY car brand will reveal the radically redesigned new version of its longest-running model today – and it will be an EV.

The beloved car will return in two body types and is the first after the manufacturer overhauled its naming system.

Audi is all set to unveil the Audi A6 E-Tron this afternoon more than 30 years after the launch of the first generation.

It is only the German brand’s fifth all-electric vehicle and is the first in its iconic A lineup.

All of its siblings so far have been SUVs, but the A6 will retain its saloon shape.

Both Avant and Sportback body styles will be available, with the latter offering a more performance-centred setup.

Customers will also be offered S and RS versions with dual-motor drivetrains, offering even more power and range.

The fastest versions are expected to have a 0-62mph time of “well under” four seconds, according to Autocar.

It is reportedly expected to be based on the same platform as the Q6 E-Tron and the related Porsche Macan Electric.

Similar specifications would mean around 396 horsepower and rapid charging of a 100kWh battery.

The new car was spotted out and about near Audi’s facility in Germany a few months ago, previewing the release.

Based on this design, the rear-view mirrors will be fully replaced by cameras and the car will feature new alloy wheels and sunken door handles.

Perhaps most significantly, the A6 will be the first EV since Audi changed its naming conventions.

Under the new rules, only electric cars will have even numbers in their names, while petrol and hybrid models will be odd-numbered.

The firm will still make what used to be the petrol A6, which is set to re-debut later this year as the A7.

It comes after a rival manufacturer’s latest model was revealed to boast an incredible hidden feature in the boot.
