Three arrested for stealing traffic lights

The Turkish Cypriot police on Wednesday announced three teenagers had been arrested in connection with the theft of a set of traffic lights in Kyrenia.

The lights had been stolen in the early hours of Monday morning, with CCTV footage showing one person inspecting the traffic lights, before making an unsuccessful attempt to pull them off the post to which they were attached.

He then returned to make another attempt, this time successfully dislodging the traffic lights and making off with them.

The three arrested are aged 19, 18, and 17 years old respectively.

Meanwhile, one of the arrestees surrendered the traffic lights to the police, and the lights were returned by the police to the Turkish Cypriot Kyrenia municipality on Tuesday evening.

The police’s investigation into the matter is ongoing.
