Kate Garraway returns to social media as she gives health update on dad after heart attack – and reveals GMB return

KATE Garraway has returned to social media and given an update on her dad Gordon’s health after his heart attack.

It comes after we reported earlier this month that Kate, 57, had been keeping a bedside vigil after her beloved dad suffered a suspected stroke and heart attack.

The Good Morning Britain star said her father is now recovering after collapsing on holiday and thanked the NHS for their support.

Kate shared throwback photo of her smiling alongside her father and wrote: “Hi all – sorry I disappeared from here when my Dad collapsed & rushed to hospital two weeks ago while having a holiday with my Mum at my brother’s .

“It was very scary but am so pleased that he is now stable & even recovering a bit in hospital – we have so much to be grateful for, but are taking it a day at a time.

“Huge thanks to the incredible NHS staff for their endless kindness & the heart they put into the care of all their patients which has meant so much to my mum & all our family.”

Kate – who has been absent from Good Morning Britain and her morning slot on Smooth Radio for the past two weeks – said she would be returning to her presenting duties on August 5.

The mum-of-two praised her co-stars for filing in for her in order for her to put her “family first”.

Kate shared: “Huge thanks too to my incredible friends ITV and Smooth Radio particularly Ranvir Singh, Charlotte Hawkins, Tina Hobley and Myleene Klass for yet again changing their plans to cover for me so I could put my family first.

“Luckily I also had some weeks leave booked so I have been able to support my Mum & Brother & be with my Dad while also giving Darcey & Billy some summer fun on their school holidays which of course they really need.

“Am hoping to be back on Good Morning Britain and Smooth Radio on Monday so can update more then but for now sending love to you all.”

Her fans were quick to share their messages of support.

One wrote: “Sending love Kate to you and your family.”

A second posted: “Glad to hear he is on the road to recovery,” while a third added: “We all love you and send best wishes.”

A spokesperson for ITV told The Sun how mum of two Kate “is on pre-arranged leave.”

It has been a rough year for the broadcaster, who lost husband Derek Draper, aged 56, earlier this year.

Derek died on January 3 from complications of long Covid.

Both Gordon and her mum Marylyn, as well as Derek, had shared Kate’s happy moment when she was bestowed an MBE by Prince William at Windsor Castle last June.

Earlier this month, we told how Kate had dashed to Cornwall after covering for GMB co-host Susanna Reid, 53, to care for her dad.

At the time, a source told us: “Very sadly, Kate’s father collapsed earlier this week while staying , along with her mum and her brother in Cornwall.

“It was incredibly frightening as he was found unconscious and immediately taken to hospital.

“Kate rushed to be by his and her mum’s side minutes after GMB finished on air.

“It seems likely that he’s had a stroke and possibly a heart attack as well – doctors are still doing tests.

“He remains in hospital and is currently stable but, understandably, it’s given the whole family a terrible scare and they are praying he can recover.

“Luckily Kate is due to be off work for a few weeks anyway so she can divide her time between the hospital whilst simultaneously looking after Darcey and Billy.

“After the horrible, heartbreaking year they have had, it’s so important to Kate that they try and have a normal summer break.

“It’s a very stressful time for the whole family but as ever Kate is doing her best to look after everyone.”

Kate recently insisted her daughter Darcey celebrate her 18th birthday with a party, to keep her life as normal as possible as well as as a way to remember her dad.

Meanwhile, Kate’s pal and GMB co-star Laura Tobin, who presents the weather, recently gave an update on her wellbeing.

Speaking exclusively to The Sun at the TRIC Awards, Laura said: “Kate’s doing great! She’s the most incredible human being.

“Still she’ll always ask how you’re doing and how everyone else is doing.

“We’re moving house and she’s always asking about my move and my daughter.

“She remembers everyone else and she doesn’t always put herself first – if it was me I wouldn’t.”
