Scottie Scheffler’s Olympics goal is to ‘have fun’ and his competitors are absolutely doomed

Typically, once you reach the Olympics, all the platitudes about just going out and having fun are forgotten.

I mean, come on. This is the OLYMPICS. These athletes have worked their entire lives to get here. Sure, they can have fun taking in the games, but when it’s their turn to compete, it’s time to lock in.

Of course, Scottie Scheffler is not typical.

The PGA Tour superstar is much more soft-spoken and even-keeled. Even when getting arrested for something video proved he didn’t do, Scheffler remained calm and understanding. That’s how he became the No. 1 golfer in the world and why he remains in that spot.

So when photos of Scheffler and his fellow Olympians from the PGA Tour stating their goals for the Games emerged, the scariest sight wasn’t Rory McIlory, Matthew Fitzpatrick or Shane Lowry declaring they wanted to win gold. It was Scheffler saying he wanted to “have fun”.

Typically, when Scheffler is having fun, the rest of the field is doomed.

Oh yeah, everyone else in the field is cooked. It’s a battle for Silver and Bronze now.

Men’s golf gets underway on Thursday from Le Golf National in Guyancourt, France  — which hosted the Ryder Cup in 2018 — and Scheffler is the heavy favorite with +400 odds to win gold.

Golf fans took one look at his “have fun” goal and decided it’s over.
