Arrest made in 2021 SE Portland murder of Jonathon Polanco

The suspect in the 2021 murder of Jonathon Polanco was arrested Tuesday, authorities said.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- The suspect in the 2021 murder of Jonathon Polanco was arrested Tuesday, authorities said.

According to Portland police, the U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Task Force took now 21-year-old Leonard L. Edwards into custody for the 2021 shooting.

On August 20, 2021, Polanco was found shot at a convenience store parking lot at Southeast 92nd Avenue and Southeast Holgate Boulevard and he later died in the hospital.

A short while later, detectives issued a warrant for then-18-year-old Edwards as the suspect in the murder. Detectives also issued a warrant for 19-year-old Deshondra Rayford as an assault suspect and she eventually turned herself in to the police.

Eventually, the investigation was taken before a Grand Jury that indicted Edwards for the murder.

Edwards faces several charges including second-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon and third-degree assault.
