A 2.5 magnitude earthquake was detected Wednesday in the Inverness area, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The quake happened at about 6 a.m. at a depth of about 7 miles, the agency reported. The agency considers a shallow quake to be up to 43.5 miles deep.

The center of the quake was about a mile west southwest of town near the end of Bishop Pine Preserve Road.

No damage or injuries were reported, said Chief Jason Weber of the Marin County Fire Department, which oversees the Office of Emergency Management.
