Oklahomans prepare for annual sales tax holiday beginning August 2-4

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) - The first weekend in August is right around the corner for parents looking for back-to-school deals!

The Oklahoma Tax Commission Facebook page says, it's the one weekend per year you can purchase essential clothing and shoes under $100 tax-free.

Oklahoma’s 2023 sales tax holiday begins 12:01 a.m. Friday and ends Sunday. Under the special holiday law, if an item is tax exempt, anyone may make the purchase tax-free.

All retailers are required to participate and may not charge tax on items that are tax-exempt during the sales tax holiday weekend.

Oklahomans can expect sales of any article of clothing or footwear designed to be worn on or about the human body and the sales price of the article is less than $100 to be exempt, according to Oklahoma Tax Commission.
