Carrie Underwood is reportedly closing a deal to replace Katy Perry as a judge for American Idol Season 23!

TMZ‘s sources with direct knowledge claim that Carrie and her team are in the “final stages of locking her into a contract to appear on the hit ABC show,” and will soon join Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie as the new judge.

ABC has not yet confirmed the news.

Of course, Carrie famously became the fourth winner of Idol back in 2005, which would make this a full circle moment for the star.

Katy announced in February that Season 22 of American Idol would be her last.

“I think this will probably be my last season for Idol,” she said at the time. “I love Idol so much. It’s connected me with the heart of America, but I feel like I need to go out and feel that pulse to my own beat.” She had been a judge since the competition was rebooted by ABC in 2018.
