Heated debate over mega auction at IPL owners’ meeting: Report

A big discussion has taken place at the IPL owners’ meeting at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai. Quite a few voices have been against mega auctions, including Kolkata Knight Riders’s Shah Rukh Khan.

According to a top BCCI source who was part of the meeting, Shah Rukh was making the case against mega auctions. At one stage, the KKR owner was also believed to be engaged in a heated argument with Ness Wadia, the co-owner of Punjab Kings, over the number of retentions. Shah Rukh was in favour of major retentions while Wadia is believed to be against too many of them.

There is still no confirmation as to whether the BCCI will hold a mega auction. If the Board decides to reject the idea of a mega auction, there may not be a requirement for retentions at all.

Among the owners who have turned up at meeting are Kiran Kumar Grandhi of Delhi Capitals, Sanjiv Goenka of Lucknow Super Giants, Rupa Gurunath of Chennai Super Kings, Kavya Maran of Sunrisers Hyderabad, Manoj Badale of Rajasthan Royals and Prathmesh Mishra of Royal Challengers Bangalore. a few other owners attended the meeting via video conference.
