Board to ruminate
on goat shed dispute

A project to build two sheds for goats and storage in Bolinas has been appealed to the Marin County Planning Commission.

The project site is a vacant 18,000-square-foot lot at 20 Oak Road. The structures would be 120 square feet each.

The project requires a coastal development permit. A county zoning administrator conditionally approved the project in June. Residents at two nearby properties appealed, alleging, among other concerns, that goats are not permitted there, the sheds are too big and the county did not review the most recent version of the geotechnical report, according to a staff report by Erin Yattaw, a county planner.

The Planning Commission is scheduled to meet at 1 p.m. Monday in suite 328 of the Marin County Civic Center in San Rafael. Project documents are available at shorturl.at/8X071.

INVERNESS

Earthquake reported
southwest of village

A 2.5 magnitude earthquake was detected Wednesday in the Inverness area, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The quake happened at about 6 a.m. at a depth of about 7 miles, the agency reported. The agency considers a shallow quake to be up to 43.5 miles deep.

The center of the quake was about a mile southwest of town near the end of Bishop Pine Preserve Road.

No damage or injuries were reported, said Chief Jason Weber of the Marin County Fire Department, which oversees the Office of Emergency Management.

NOVATO

Fire breaks out in
bedroom of home

A small bedroom fire broke out at a Novato residence on Wednesday. No injuries were reported.

The incident was reported around 11 a.m. at 70 McKeon Court. Novato Battalion Chief Jeff Whittet said that while firefighters were on the way to the residence, they were notified that the homeowner had extinguished the flames.

Whittet said the cause of the fire was undetermined.

Red Cross honors
volunteers in Marin

The American Red Cross North Bay Chapter has given its top volunteerism award to Lois Roth, a San Rafael resident.

The annual honor is called the “Clara Barton Award for Meritorious Leadership.” The organization cited Roth’s work as a disaster services manager.

The organization also gave a Barton award to Maryellen Taylor, a Sonoma County resident, for her work in disaster services.

The chapter also honored several Marin residents in other categories, including Kay Tsenin of Novato, who won received a “Volunteer of the Year Award.”

The Red Cross chapter includes Marin, Napa, Solano and Sonoma counties.
