‘Shame!': Internet erupts over 'moron' Trump's 'is she Black?' remark at NABJ event

Social media has erupted with reactions to Donald Trump’s disastrous interview at a Black journalists conference Wednesday after questioning whether Vice President Kamala Harris “is black” and then claiming “she became black.”

“Trump came into our home, a Black Press advocacy convention, and insulted us in our face,” wrote White House correspondent April D. Ryan. “What is worse he was invited to do this by NABJ leadership. Shame!”

At the National Association for Black Journalists Chicago conference, Trump’s team had to cut off the interview with ABC’s Rachel Scott after the Republican presidential nominee rudely demanded Scott define “DEI” and called Scott “hostile” before insinuating that Harris, who is of Black and Indian heritage, is somehow faking her identity as a Black woman.

“I didn’t know she was black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black, and she wants to be known as Black, so I don't know – she is Indian or is she Black?” Trump said in the now-widely shared video of the interview. “She was Indian all the way and then all of a sudden she made a turn and she became a Black person.”

Online, the backlash was swift and relentless.
