Sex Trafficking Sting at Comic-Con San Diego Leads to 14 Arrests, 10 Victims Rescued

A large sting operation that took place during San Diego Comic-Con 2024 led to 14 arrests and the rescue of 10 victims.

According to reporting by Variety, the San Diego Human Trafficking Task Force were present during the convention and took multiple steps to target criminal activity.

“Unfortunately, sex traffickers capitalize on large scale events such as Comic-Con to exploit their victims for profit,” California Attorney General Rob Bonta said in a statement shared with the outlet. “These arrests send a clear message to potential offenders that their criminal behavior will not be tolerated. We are grateful to all our dedicated partners involved in the San Diego Human Trafficking Task Force, whose collaboration has been invaluable. We take great pride in our office’s commitment to uplifting vulnerable Californians by offering them assistance and guidance when they need it most.”

San Diego Police Chief Wahl said that one of the victims was 16 years old.

“These results show our collective dedication to combatting human trafficking and holding criminals accountable are working,” they added.

The operation entailed have undercover officers posing as sex buyers and using false ads to find those looking to pay for sexual services while attending the event.
