What’s on this weekend

Hello August, hello new weekend of events. We’re not going to lie, August tends to be a little quiet events-wise as many (cultural producers and businesses) go on their much-need summer holidays. Thankfully, there is always something happening somewhere on the island. This weekend carries with it July’s busy agenda and has epic festivals returning for their new editions in the cities and villages of Cyprus.

First up is of course Fengaros Music Village which kicks off today. Until Saturday and across four stages dispersed in Kato Drys village, a series of live music performances will rock rural Larnaca. Invited artists from abroad and the island will entertain festival-goers while DJs, food trucks, curated cocktail bars and experiences dot the village.

In Limassol, the 19th Lemesos International Documentary Festival also begins today at Ceronia Hall – Lanitis Carob Mill. Over 20 cutting-edge documentaries will be screening until August 8 when the festival ends and all of them are Cyprus premieres. Apart from remarkable screenings of international and local productions, the festival will also host Q&A sessions to bring the audiences closer to the producers, music events with DJ sets and open-air parties. Find the screening programme here.

If it is road trips and street food you are in the mood for this weekend, Pachna village will host the 2nd Pachna Street Food Festival on Sunday. From 5pm onwards, Ayios Georgios square in Pano Pachna will fill with street food stalls serving tasty meals and bites while music plays. Organised by the village’s Youth Centre, the event is free to attend and open to all, welcoming August in a way Cypriots love; through eating and socialising.

Meanwhile, those in the capital city mid-week will get to enjoy a free film screening this Thursday as part of the Faneromeni24 arts festival at the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation. A family-friend movie will be screened in Greek in the courtyard titled Little Nicholas, following the protagonist’s adventures of holding onto friendship.
