The Athletic have revealed that Conor Gallagher has turned down a new contract offer from Chelsea as negotiations between the Blues and Atletico Madrid continue.

Atletico Madrid want Conor Gallagher

The report backs up what we heard over recent days, stating that Atletico’s negotiations with Chelsea regarding Gallagher are now at an advanced stage.

However, it is made clear that a deal has not yet been agreed between the parties and that the Tottenham target is yet to finalise personal terms with the La Liga club.

Amidst the talks, it has emerged that the West London club offered the 24-year-old a two-year contract with an option for a third, which would have seen the player increase his salary.

However, Gallagher allegedly turned down the offer, with the midfielder also thought to have knocked back a previous contract offer from his boyhood club back in June.

This report comes on the back of Football Insider’s update on Wednesday, which asserted that Tottenham are continuing to plot a hijack of Atletico’s move to sign the England international.

Talks between Chelsea and Atletico Madrid over a potential transfer continue this week.
