‘Takes the p***’ say furious fans of huge 80s band as they slam high costs and claim they’re priced out of arena tour
EIGHTIES rocker fans have been left more than a little annoyed after being “priced out” of the latest tour by Crowded House.
The beloved band, famed for songs including Don’t Dream It’s Over and Weather With You, are returning to the UK for a new leg of their worldwide tour in October.
Kicking off at Liverpool’s famed Cavern Club on October 6th, they will perform around the country before ending on October 17th at Birmingham’s Utilita Arena.
However, fans have got upset over the high price point of the tickets – which start at £75.50 for some standing events, while others reach up to £170.50 for ‘platinum’ seats.
Speaking about their frustration on the band’s official Facebook page, one wrote: “Crowded House are just about my favourite band ever, I’ve seen them play live MANY times and I think Neil is probably the world’s greatest living songwriter – but £350 for a pair of seats at the back of the utterly “soulless” Brighton Centre absolutely takes the p***.”
The poster noted they were aware some price hikes had to occur after the depletion of physical sales of CDs.
“We saw them at Piece Hall in Halifax for MUCH less than that,” noted a second. “I wonder who sets the ticket prices?”
“Love em but can’t justify the ticket price – I have a divorce and kid to pay for!” joked a third.
“Sadly can’t afford the ticket prices now!” wrote a fourth. “Lucky I have seen them live a few times, at least I have my memories.”
The issue extends beyond that of the UK as well, with fans wanting to attend the Australia tour angered at how little the VIP packages had to offer.
“Is there a meet and greet? No. Is it worth 200 for a tote bag and a laminate? No,” one wrote.
This prompted a second to respond. “Agreed. At that price point some kind of autographed ‘something’ is in order at least.”
The band’s issue comes amid a sea of increased issues with ticket pricing in the UK.
Sabrina Carpenter and Billie Eilish, while notably aimed at a different crowd, have also come under fire for their ‘extortionate’ arena tours.
In the space of a year, Sabrina’s tickets have gone up almost 10x in price, jumping from £25 to £250 for a basic seat in the “nosebleeds” at the back of the arena for her Short n Sweet tour.
Billie Eilish is charging a minimum of £145.70 for her tour.
