I’m a cat expert – my 30p hack will stop felines from pooing in your garden – and it’s good for plants too
A CAT expert has revealed a 30p hack to keep cats out of your garden.
Whether you love cats, or despise them, chances are, you don’t want them pooing in your vegetable patch.
Cat droppings are extremely smelly, and unsightly, and can be a real mess to clean up.
Therefore, an expert from Cat’s Protection shared some humane tips for keeping them away.
Sharing a video to TikTok, the expert revealed that there are a number of cheap methods you can use to deter cats, without hurting them.
She admitted that the adorable creatures can be “frustrating” when they poo in the garden, or dig up the flowerbeds.
The expert revealed that something as easy as shooing a cat away can work, and deter them from trying to come into the garden as well.
She added that you could also try adding shrubs and bushes around your plants, so that cats have less spaces to dig.
Sharing a third tip, the expert said: “Although we may love it, cats really don’t like the smell of lavender, and they’re also not a fan of citrus.
“You can try adding peels to your plants, which also gives them extra nutrients.”
Citrus fruits such as lemons and oranges, are super cheap, and you can pick them up from the supermarket for around 30p.
They also increase the acidity of soil, making your plants healthier.
Another method suggested by the expert was installing high fences to make it harder for pets to get in to.
She added: “If it’s your own cat digging up your flowers beds to use as a toilet, you can try giving them an open space in the garden to use instead.
“It’s important to know that cats have the right to roam, which means they’re legally allowed to enter your garden.
Tips for keeping pests from your garden
- Plant companion plants such as peppermint to repel rats.
- Place Garden Netting Pest Barrier, over your flowerbeds.
- Fill open-top containers with beer and place in soil to repel slugs.
- Spray plants with Neem Oil, to repel ants, flies, and spiders.
- Dust your flowerbeds with Diatomaceous Earth.
- Mix 1 tablespoon dish soap, 10 drops peppermint oil, and 4 cups water and spray on flowerbeds.
- Place eggshells around your plants to protect from slugs and snails.
