LAGOS STATE COLLEGE OF HEALTH TECHNOLOGY GETS NEW PROVOST

Lagos State Government has appointed Professor Raheem Olasupo Akewushola as the new Provost of the Lagos State College Of Health Technology (LASCOHET), Yaba. Before his appointment, the Professor was the Dean of the Faculty of Management Science at the Lagos State University ( LASU), Ojo.

The appointment of the new Provost was made known to the management and staff of the College by the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Mr. Tolani Sule through the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Adeniran Kasali.

The Commissioner said the appointment of Professor Akewushola was necessitated given the need to improve teaching and learning in the College to meet global standards and the health demands in the state.

He described the new Provost as a round peg in a round hole, considering his academic pedigree and administrative skills as a former Dean of Faculty, Management Science, at the Lagos State University ( LASU).

According to him, his appointment was part of the process of taking the College development to a higher level in awarding higher diplomas and degrees in the near future.

The Commissioner said the current administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu remains committed to providing modern teaching tools, facilities and infrastructure, in addition to paying adequate attention to staff welfare such that the College can continue to occupy its enviable position in the country.

He, therefore, solicited the support and cooperation of the College staff for the new Provost to excel and achieve the goals of improving learning and teaching in the College.

In his remarks, Professor Akewushola thanked the state government for the appointment and confidence reposed in him, promising that no stone would be left unturned to achieve the goals and ideals on which the College was founded.

He assured of his commitment to uplifting the standard of research, teaching and learning in the College, while also creating a serene environment where learning would flourish.

The occasion which took place recently at the College Hall, Yaba, was attended by the Chairman, Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Establishment, Training and Pension, Hon. Oladele Ajayi; the former Acting Provost, now Deputy Provost (Administration), Mrs. Oyeronke Uthman-Izobo; Deputy Provost (Academics) Dr. Olaronke Agoro, members of the College, family members of the new Provost and well-wishers.

Professor Akewushola Raheem took over the administration of the College from Mrs. Oyeronke Uthman-Izobo who was the Acting Provost of the Lagos State College for Health Technology before the appointment of the new Provost.
