'This is a big deal': Biden 'will leave office with a big win' after Russia prisoner swap

Reporting as the United States and Russia were consummating a prisoner swap that will return Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich and ex-U.S. Marine Paul Whelan to the U.S., Washington correspondent April Ryan claimed it was a "big win" for President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris as the election nears.

Speaking with MSNBC host Ana Cabrera, the Grio's Ryan noted negotiations have been going on for months, long before WNBC star Brittney Griner was released in December of 2022 due to the efforts of the Biden administration.

As Ryan told the MSNBC host, "As President Biden wants to save democracy by handing over the torch to the next generation, Kamala Harris, this is a big win for him — President Biden personally and for the Biden/Harris administration."

"People have been very much pushing for the release of these Russian hostages, especially since the Brittney Griner release," she reported. "They were like, these people have been in longer, et cetera, and now potentially this is happening. We are waiting for confirmation on everything."

"Senatorial leaders as well as those on the Hill, national security, ...everyone is waiting for full confirmation on this, but that's what's in play," she continued before elaborating, "This is a big deal. The president is going to leave in the next six months with a huge win. The economy is growing. He's releasing hostages that the American people have been so concerned about, and he's now passed the torch. So he has got a very big win this this moment, when we are waiting for great news."
