Atlantic Avenue Home

Atlantic Avenue Home is a minimal residence located in Brooklyn, New York, designed by Bureau Tempo. A mural by artist and family friend Melody Lockerman adds a personal touch, depicting nearby Prospect Park, a favorite spot for the client and her dog. The mural’s tones complement the overall design, bringing a sense of levity to the space. The kitchen and den, elevated above the rest of the home, are unified by their materials and finishes. Textured 4×4” ceramic tiles form a subtle checkerboard floor pattern, while shelves atop the wainscoting create a cohesive datum across the area. These rooms connect directly to a north-facing terrace, which, filled with light, enhances the perception of the home’s size.

An operable wood and fluted glass wall separates the primary living space from the Atlantic Avenue end, providing an open office by day and a private guest area when needed. This wall, featuring integrated storage and Murphy bed cabinets, can transform from an open, airy space to a private retreat while maintaining ample natural light. The primary bedroom is distinguished by walls painted in Farrow & Ball’s Dead Salmon, offering a subtle contrast to the textured lime plaster finish by Bauwerk Colour found throughout the rest of the home. Armadillo rugs in the living room, office/guest room, and primary bedroom add warmth and comfort. Drawing inspiration from the client’s vibrant wardrobe, the design balances tone and texture with confident ease. A floor-to-ceiling library with a rolling Putnam ladder greets visitors upon entry, balanced by the simplicity of frameless closet doors on the opposite wall.
