New officials appointed at Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany

Bishop Edward B. Scharfenberger has appointed an interim superintendent for the Catholic School Office, a new chancellor, and created a vice chancellor position for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany.

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Bishop Edward B. Scharfenberger has appointed an interim superintendent for the Catholic School Office, a new chancellor, and created a vice chancellor position for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany.

Dr. Christopher Bott was appointed as Interim Superintendent following the resignation of Dr. Giovanni Virgiglio. Bott was the Associate Superintendent of Schools for the Diocese since 2018. According to the diocese communications department, he served as principal at Catholic Central High School in Troy and the former St. James School in Albany after teaching at Catholic School in New York since the late 1990s.

Bishop Scharfenberger also appointed Chief Operating Officer (COO) Bonni Shippee as the new chancellor of the diocese. Shippee will continue to serve as COO and has been doing so since July 2021. She will assist the bishop in notarizing official documents and maintaining diocesan archives.

In the newly created Vice Chancellor role, Bishop Scharfenberger has appointed Diocesan Archivist Amy Brozio-Andrews. Brozio-Andrews has been serving the Albany Diocese as Archivist since 2017.
