Highly-rated Chin joins Boro
Farnborough Football Club announces the signing of talented 21-year-old full-back or defensive midfielder Richard Chin.
Boro boss Spencer Day starts August how he means to go on with the addition of highly sought-after defender or midfielder Richard Chin.
The former Charlton Athletic youngster is the latest new player to pen a deal at the Saunders Transport Community Stadium.
Chin is an Academy graduate of The Addicks – who he has played his football for since under 9 level; eventually leading to 18 senior appearances for the League One side.
Comfortable at full-back or in midfield, Richard gained experience in The Vanarama National League South over the past two years with loan spells at Dartford and Bath City – where he more recently found the net in just a small number of appearances.
His versatility on the pitch makes one of the first names on the teamsheet wherever he goes.
Chin has been keeping fit throughout Pre-Season with some National League sides and is set to appear for Farnborough in Saturday’s Friendly against Maidenhead United.
Upon the completion of his signing, Richard spoke to us about the exciting move to Hampshire:
“From the start, Spencer’s been really keen to have me here. I went to a few Clubs beforehand and things didn’t quite work out.
“I think it’s a blessing in disguise because I really need to play as many games as possible, be as effective as I can and kick on with my career.
“I want to play every week; obviously I’ve got earn the right to stay in the team. I’m really excited to be somewhere that I’ve got a very good chance of playing and making a big impact this season.”
Our new man told us about his targets for 2024/25: “This season, I want to get ten goals, ten assists. Since the start of Pre-Season, wherever I was, that’s something that I really wanted to achieve, so I’m going to do everything to make that happen.
“For the team, I think the team finished really strongly last year. I was at Bath [City] and I saw they were towards the bottom end of the table and great form after January and nearly got into the Play-Offs. So this year, I don’t see why promotion can’t be the goal and the only goal worth talking about.”
When asked about the attributes he will bring to the team this year, he said: “Loads of energy, hard work, I’m going to be aggressive, on the front foot and I’ll hope to be an exciting player that people enjoy watching.”
An ecstatic Farnborough Manager Spencer Day gave his thoughts on his latest capture:
“Without doubt the longest transfer saga of the off season!
“I’ve been after Chinny since last season and it’s another statement of intent that he’s chosen us as a path back into the EFL.
“Equally at home in attack or defence, I know we’ve added real quality to the group. To the many people that helped get this one over the line, thank you!”
Richard has been allocated shirt number 7.
