On six minutes, it was the home side who came close to opening the scoring at the Powerday Stadium.

The ball ended up going behind after two strikes at goal had been successfully blocked. From the resulting corner, Matteo Salamon made a very good save at the near-post. The second corner was then cleared to safety.

Hanwell had the ball in the net soon after but it was ruled out for offside.

The R’s then began to grow into the game and their first attempt at goal was provided by Jaiden Putman, whose angled shot whizzed just past the far-post.

Rangers took the lead just after the half-hour mark. Following good work by Emmerson Sutton, the ball came back to Lorenzo Strachan, and the 17-year-old then slotted it in the bottom corner.

A couple of minutes later, Jake Coomes bombed down the left-flank past two defenders and his ball on to Sutton was fired just past the upright.

However, the Geordies started to look dangerous again. After a free kick was floated into the box, the ball was headed over the bar. From the corner, a free header ended up just wide of the post.

And the home side equaliser arrived on 41 minutes courtesy of a Hanwell trialist. Then a Geordies low-shot was deflected behind for a corner. Half-time: 1-1.

Paul Furlong made three changes for the start of the second-half, which saw the introduction of Rocco Friel, Mason Skeete and Ridwan Hassan at the expense of Sam Manufor, Jack McDowell and Lorenzo Strachan respectively.

Rangers went close to taking the lead after a dangerous ball put over from the right, was forced away by a defender.

Then, Jake Coomes’ low strike was stopped on the line after the keeper had punched the ball out.

The R’s took a deserved lead after 53 minutes when Hassan Hamid smashed the ball into the net from around 30-odd yards.

This was followed by Philip Sanyaolu replacing Kieran Petrie.

An unsighted Matteo Salamon did well to grab the ball late at the near-post. Then, whilst under-pressure, he managed to grab a high cross from the left-wing.

The final change came around the hour-mark when Teddy Tarbotton came on for Hassan Hamid.

Following a cross from the right, Ridwan Hassan headed over the crossbar and on 70 minutes the players took a drinks break.

QPR’s third goal came on 83 minutes following a swift counter-attack. Looking like he may have over-hit the ball past the keeper, Ridwan Hassan kept going and from close range, he then stroked the ball into an empty net.

A couple of minutes later, Emmerson Sutton took possession of a long ball and his lob just evaded the upright.

Hanwell almost pulled a goal back in the 90th minute, but the R’s keeper denied them with an excellent stop at the near-post.

Next up for Paul Furlong’s side is a trip to Waltham Abbey on Tuesday.

Thanks to Joe English for the lift back.
