Ever wonder why Bill Belichick held his Patriots media availabilities in such a curt fashion?

Sure, Belichick's unwillingness to give basically anything to reporters probably can be explained as a competitive advantage. The future Pro Football Hall of Fame coach wasn't always so terse with the media, though.

On a recent episode of the "Shut Up Marc" podcast, New England star Matthew Judon revealed a story Belichick told Patriots players about why he became listless at the podium.

"He told us it was because when he was coaching under (Bill) Parcells, he had said something about a player and the media turned it around on him. Now, he's like, 'I'm never gonna say nothing else ever again,'" Judon said. "So, I just think he got a bad taste of the media. You know him, as a history buff, he's like, 'I'm never going to let that repeat itself.' So, he turned his personality off. He don't do extra interviews. All coaches get a chance to do interviews. He only do the interviews that he's contracted to do."

Belichick likely will go back to being his tight-lipped self if/when he lands another NFL coaching time. But in the meantime, we'll be hearing plenty this season from Belichick, who's taking on a wide range of media gigs for the upcoming campaign.
