I MacGyvered a contraption to blow up my kiddie pool without buying an air pump – people say it’s ‘so flipping smart’

Redditor Last2theParty shared the handy home trick in a post.

“[I] needed an air pump to blow up the kiddie pool,” they explained.

The issue, however, was that they didn’t have an air pump on hand.

That didn’t stop them from taking a much-needed swim, however.

“MacGyvered this bad boy,” they said, showing off the “pump” they fashioned out of a hair dryer.

They revealed that they’d cut a water bottle in half and taped it over the mouth of the hairdryer to create a temporary air pump.

Some viewers were initially hesitant about the project.

“Won’t that get hot and eventually melt the plastic?” asked one.

“Or is there just a cool air setting?”

Some felt that the strategy could work if the air wasn’t too hot.

“Hair dryers come with multiple settings, including a ‘cool’ setting that blows out plain air unheated,” replied one viewer.

“I suspect the ‘low’ setting on this one is just the cool setting.”

The Redditor confirmed that both were correct: “Yeah, it’s that little grey button,” they said.

“I didn’t realize this at first, and it did melt the bottle a little, but it still worked.”

Others praised them for quick thinking on their feet.

“This is what you call Big Brain,” said one impressed viewer.

“So flipping smart!” said another.

Others said the temporary solution might provide more benefits than an air pump.

“Killing mold at the same time! Love it!” said one.

“It might even be quieter than the air pump you had before!” said another.
