Dog killing horror in Ayioi Trimithias

The Green party on Friday revealed that it is awaiting the results of a police investigation into the shooting of a dog in Ayioi Trimithias in Nicosia.

The incident came to the attention of the party on Tuesday through social media reports. The police stated that a 64-year-old man had admitted to the crime during interrogation, and that they had proceeded to confiscate three shotguns in his possession.

The greens raised the question of whether the perpetrator, after his admission, has been arrested or was still at large.

“If he remains free, another big question arises. Why? Had it been a manslaughter would he still be free?” the greens asked in their statement.

“We remind you that several studies have shown that when a person gets to the point of picking up a gun and killing a defenseless animal, then they can do the same to a human,” the statement continued.

The party said that common society had reached its limits with such heinous acts.

“Unfortunately, once again, we are faced with yet another horrific crime against [an] animal. Killing an animal in cold blood […] is a reprehensible act and should alarm society. We demand implementation of the law, the bringing of the person responsible for this barbaric act before justice and punishment as provided by the legislation,” the greens said.
