Best-selling car brand slashes cost of new SUV by £1,000s… and it beats the price of rival Kia motor

A BEST-selling car brand has slashed the cost of its new SUV by £1,000s… taking it under the price of the rival Kia motor.

The model has only been on the market for a year but has already introduced a new base spec, putting it among the cheapest EVs in the UK.

The Volvo EX30 was introduced back in 2023 and began European sales in earnest earlier this year.

Made partly of recycled materials, it was touted as the Swedish brand’s most eco-friendly model ever.

Now, Volvo has taken £2,000 off its starting price with its latest refresh.

The new “Core” variant slots in at the bottom of the model lineup.

For the price, though, it still offers a surprising amount, with a decent 209-mile range and 268 horsepower electric motor.

LED headlights come as standard, as do rear parking sensors and a reversing camera.

Customers also get a bevvy of futuristic tech, including adaptive cruise control and blind spot sensors.

The infotainment system is run from a 12.3″ touchscreen on the central console, which comes with Google apps (including Maps) already installed.

All that is included for just £32,850, down from over £35,000 for the previous base model.

The reduced price puts the model comfortably among the cheapest 20 electric cars on sale in the UK.

And in the SUV category, the EX30 is fighting for a spot in the top ten.

It also takes it under the £32,995 starting price of its closest market rival, the Kia EV3, though with slightly less range and a smaller batter.

However, for an extra £4,200, you can pick up an “Extended Range” EX30, which can travel up to 295 miles on a single charge.

That being said, Kia offers a long-range EV3 with 372 miles in the battery, still for under £35,000.

And both are around twice the price of the roughly £14,000 Dacia Duster – the UK’s cheapest full-size EV.

It comes after a man revealed how he turned his £1,000 Ford Transit into a tiny home after a devastating cancer diagnosis.

The EX30 will now start from £32,850
