A McDonald’s worker has been jailed after he set fire to the restaurant because too many customers were frustrating him.

Joshua Daryl McGregor has been sentenced to five years in prison for intentionally starting the fire in Savannah, Georgia, in April 2023.

He lit a piece of cardboard and threw it into the dumpster outside, which was filled with flammable material.

But the fire became so intense customers waiting in the drive thru were forced to give up on their orders and leave, WSBTV reports.

The entire restaurant had to be briefly shut down while the flames were brought under control.

McGregor filmed the fire on his phone, and pleased guilty to arson charges.

He was identified on CCTV having started the fire before he was arrested.

Jill E. Steinberg, US Attorney, said: ‘Intentionally setting a fire in an effort to shut down or damage someone else’s property is inexcusable.’

Beau Kolodka, from the Atlanta Field Division, said: ‘Arson is an extremely violent crime that not only destroys property but also places firefighters, first responders and the general public at great risk.

‘The ATF, along with the Savannah Fire’s Arson Unit and our other law enforcement partners, are committed to ensuring that our communities are safe and that those who commit these dangerous acts are held accountable.’

‘Savannah Fire’s Arson Unit greatly appreciates our continued ability to work with our local and federal partners to successfully prosecute arson that effects interstate commerce in our jurisdiction,’ said Fred Anderson, chief investigator for the Savannah Fire Arson Unit.

‘These efforts made as a partnership have continued to help make our community safer and greatly reduce the act of arson throughout the city.’
