UK weather: Met Office reveals areas set to bask in 21C sun this weekend after ‘month’s worth of rain’ & thunderstorms

BRITS are in for a sunny and pleasant weekend as temperatures are expected to hit 21C, according to Met Office weather maps.

The mercury is due to take a dip over the weekend compared to today’s top temperatures but will still be lovely and warm with large amounts of sunny spells.

As the working week comes to a close, it will be warm for most and very warm in the southeast.

Those in the northeast though can expect some cloud and outbreaks of rain along with some breezy conditions.

A few heavy showers are likely to in the east as well during the morning.

Overnight, rain will move southeastwards, turning lighter and patchier.

Drier, clearer and fresher conditions will then come in from the west.

Muggy conditions can be expected in the southeast.

As for Saturday, rain is likely to slowly clear in the southeast as the day wears on.

Elsewhere, Brits can expect sunny spells while Northern Ireland and Scotland will see some scattered showers.

It will remain pleasantly warm although it will feel fresher for all.

Those mainly dry and bright, sunny spells will continue on Sunday.

But as Brits return to work on Monday, conditions are due to become unsettled with rain and brisk winds, the Met Office says.

The rain though will clear away on Tuesday with temperatures due to slowly rise in the south.

It comes after a month’s worth of rain fell in just an hour and flooding closed roads.

Heavy downpours battered large swathes of the UK – despite the mercury soaring to 30C.

Almost a month’s worth of rain fell in an hour in Greater London yesterday, the Met Office said.

UK long range weather forecast

August 6-15

Much of this period looks likely to be changeable with UK’s weather characterised by a broadly westerly type, which means weather mostly of an Atlantic origin, the Met Office says.

Within this, low pressure is perhaps more likely to be situated further to the north, bringing more frequent bouts of rain, showers and perhaps windier weather at times.

Conversely, areas further to the south are more likely to see ridges of higher pressure, bringing more in the way of fine, settled weather, though still with the potential for some wetter, thundery or more generally unsettled interludes.

As a result of this, some warm weather or perhaps even short-lived hot spells are likely in the south at times, but overall temperatures are likely to be nearer normal in the north.

Drivers faced road closures and there were disruptions to public transport, power cuts and flooding.

A whopping 53mm of rain fell in just one hour in New Addington on the outskirts of South London.

Average total rainfall for the month of August in the same area is 56mm, forecasters said.
