George Conway: Trump’s 'stupid' Harris attacks make him 'look weak'

Donald Trump has been drawing widespread criticism for questioning presumptive 2024 Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris' racial identity during a conversation at the National Association of Black Journalists Convention in Chicago on Wednesday, July 31 — comments that, according to Never Trump conservative George Conway, show that his campaign is flailing.

Trump claimed that Harris has conveniently "turned Black," telling attendees "Is she Indian or is she Black?.... She was always of Indian heritage, and she was only promoting Indian heritage. I didn't know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black. And now, she wants to be known as Black. So I don't know, is she Indian or is she Black? I respect either one, but she obviously doesn't."

Harris, in fact, has had a lot to say about her heritage over the years, often noting that her Black father was Jamaican and her mother was from India. The vice president has repeatedly expressed affection for both Black culture and Indian culture.

During an early August vodcast for the conservative website The Bulwark, Conway told host Sarah Longwell, "Talking about whether (Harris) is Black or Indian is just insane. It doesn't help him. It doesn't change anything. It looks stupid. It looks weak. So, he's gotta find something else to hit her with, and it doesn't look good for him if he can't figure that out real fast. There's a lot of time between now and November; so, we'll see."

The conservative attorney argued that while Harris has been running a disciplined campaign, Trump is in disarray.

Conway told Longwell, "The thing about Trump is he can't control himself…. He's such a narcissist. Everything is about him in the here and now. And if he sees it, he gets mad. And when he gets mad, he starts talking about things he shouldn't be talking about —like whether or not he's deranged, and whether or not he's a psycho. And Hannibal Lector…. He does not have the emotional stability to be president of the United States."
