Report: A host of clubs are waiting for Spurs to make loan decision for 19-year-old

19-year-old attacking midfielder, Jamie Donley, shone at U21 level for Spurs last season, earning him a spot on Postecoglou’s pre-season plane. However, Donley has since been linked with a loan move away from the club, rumours that the player himself has now addressed.

Could Spurs send Jamie Donley out on loan?

Jamie Donley was an integral part of the U21 squad that lifted the PL2 double last season, clinching both the league and play-off titles.

Donley’s twenty goals and assists in as many games in PL2 earned him three senior appearances, and seemingly the admiration of plenty of loan suitors. (TransferMarkt)

Football.London have reported that there is a queue of English sides willing to take the youngster on loan, varying from both League One and Championship level.

The host of loan suitors are awaiting a decision from Spurs manager, Ange Postecoglou, to see whether or not the Australian decides to loan out or keep the academy star.

Recent impressive showings at left-back however may have given Postecoglou a dilemma with Donley’s versatility an extra advantage to his squad.

Donley claims his focus remains on his pre-season amid loan links

Spurs have already forked out on Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray, both of whom can play in a creative midfield role, like Donley. However, the U21 star isn’t letting that phase him.

He told FootballLondon: “I think that’s just the way football is. People are going to be buying players and it’s for me to push harder and try to get ahead of them really, then when I get ahead of them, stay ahead of them. because that’s just the way the game is.

When asked about links to various loan moves this summer, Donley expressed his openness to all options, stating: “I haven’t been told anything. I’m obviously here at the minute and on tour, so I’ll just keep doing the best I can and then when I come back [to England], I’ll probably find out a bit more of what’s happening.

“I’m not sure [what I prefer], whatever the coaches think is best for me to be honest, and I trust what they think is right.”

Donley’s performances at left-back have gone relatively under the radar. Making your starting debut for the senior team is hard enough, let alone in a position alien to your usual role. The added aspect of Donley being able to play left-back may increase his chances to stay this season as part of the first team too.

However, the club must push aside any selfish ideas about the 19-year-old. Unless they believe Donley can truly pick up some valuable first-team minutes, he should be loaned.

If Championship sides are interested in his services, it could be perfect for Donley who now needs regular first-team minutes in order to flourish after his U21 performances teased just how good he can be.
