Hawthorne Bridge to completely shut down all weekend for repairs

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Both lanes of the Hawthorne Bridge are slated to shut down completely for this entire weekend for repairs.

The closure begins on Friday, Aug. 2, at 7 p.m. and reopens at 5 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 5, according to Multnomah County.

Temporary bicycle and pedestrian detours will be set up while crews work on the bridge. Officials are advising people to "use caution near the construction site," secure their travel plans ahead of time and use alternative routes.

This comes amid a previously announced closure from the county that the westbound lanes would be experiencing closures on weekdays from the late afternoon until the early morning from now until mid- to late August. Those westbound closures also include temporary bicycle and pedestrian detours.

Despite the planned closures, the weekend of Saturday, Aug. 10 through Monday, Aug. 12 will see all lanes and sidewalks reopened for an event, the Providence Bridge Pedal.

More information about the Hawthorne Bridge Paving and Repair Project can be found on Multnomah County's website.
