Two lanes to close on road to Ayios Dhometios crossing point

Two lanes are to close on the road to the Ayios Dhometios crossing point from the north from Saturday.

The usual southbound carriageway between the Metehan roundabout ant the crossing point will be closed, with the northbound carriageway transformed into a two-way road.

The lanes will be closed until at least August 28.

They have been closed as construction of the new official residence of the Turkish Cypriot leader is under construction in the area.

The new complex, which will also include a new ‘parliament’ building for the north, is set across 400,000 square metres of land in Ayios Dhometios.

Construction of the complex is expected to be completed in November or December, with the Turkish Cypriot leader’s residence set to move Nicosia’s walled city and the north’s ‘parliament’ leave the former Dianellos cigarette factory in northern Nicosia’s Koskluciftlik neighbourhood.
