Liz Truss ‘absolutely rinsed’ by racing commentator in one of the ‘best clips ever to air on British television’

FORMER Prime Minister Liz Truss was ‘absolutely rinsed’ by a racing commentator in a viral video dubbed ‘one of the best clips ever to air on British television’.

Truss was standing next to top owner Jim Hay in the parade ring at Goodwood for this week’s Glorious meeting.

A clip of former PM Liz Truss has gone viral online after ITV Racing commentator Richard Hoiles’ devastating one-liner

Sun Racing columnist and ITV presenter Matt Chapman slid in next to Hay to get his opinion on a race on Tuesday.

Truss wasn’t interviewed during the short chat but stood smiling next to Hay, a former BP executive whose wife Fitriani donated £100,000 to her 2022 PM campaign.

And it was as screens went to the runners of the race and their odds that commentary great Richard Hoiles delivered a line for the ages.

He said: “That was Liz Truss, wasn’t it? It was! My eyes are not deceiving me.

“This market could crash any minute, couldn’t it!”

Hoiles then went through the horses and jockeys – most likely unaware that his quip was about to go viral online.

ITV Political Editor Robert Peston said it was ‘so funny’ while one viewer wrote: “This is one of the best clips ever to air on British television.”

Another said Hoiles was in ‘typically brilliant’ form with his one-liner, and while a fellow ITV viewer said: “This is exceptional!”

And one X post read: “The best put down by @RichardHoiles ever. What a legend.”

There was no luck for the Hays that day either as they failed to find a winner.

Things picked up on Thursday, though, when they celebrated Great Chieftain’s 20-1 win in the Class 3 World Pool Handicap, where victory was worth £18,039.
