Woman accused of arranging Oakland man’s murder gets 9 years; the actual killer has never been found

OAKLAND — After six years in jail awaiting trial, an East Bay woman has been sentenced to state prison for a 2018 homicide she allegedly arranged.

Frankie Porcher, 35, pleaded no contest to attempted murder in the shooting death of 22-year-old Charleston Turner Jr. In exchange, prosecutors dropped a murder charge against Porcher and she was sentenced to nine years in prison.

Porcher was accused of setting up the situation that led to Turner’s death. She reportedly blamed him for missing money and arranged to meet him on the 5900 block of MacArthur Boulevard on New Year’s Eve 2018.

When Turner arrived, Porcher and a man who police have never publicly identified were there. Authorities say a struggle ensued and the man fatally shot Turner.

At Porcher’s 2019 preliminary hearing, the defense argued that Porcher never intended for Turner to be killed and only wanted her money back, and that it wouldn’t make sense to arrange a meeting in such a public place if it had been an ambush. Judge Thomas Reardon, though, noted that Porcher had voiced threats about harming Turner to his mother a short time before the shooting.

Porcher gets credit for the six years she spent in jail while the case was pending. She was transferred to state prison on July 17, records show.
